Christian dating with intention

We do not publish staged couple stories. What we can offer is honest counsel for using a dating app without treating image-bearers like inventory.

If you came here looking for a highlight reel of engagements, you will be disappointed on purpose. Fake testimonials are easy to write and they teach the wrong lesson: that the product owes you a wedding. Agape owes you a fair chance to meet other Christians who say they want the same thing. The rest is character, church, timing, and a lot of ordinary conversations.

Start with alignment, not a spark

Chemistry is real. It is also a terrible first filter if you are trying to build a household. Before you spend three weeks of chat on someone, know whether you agree on the basics: Jesus is Lord, what church you actually attend, whether you want children, and whether dating is heading toward marriage or circling the airport. Agape asks denomination, attendance, and intention up front so that conversation is not a trapdoor in week five.

Alignment is not the same as cloning yourself. A Baptist and a nondenominational evangelical can build a life. A person who never intends to sit under preaching and a person who wants a shared pew every Sunday will spend the relationship negotiating a truce. Name that early. It is kinder than a dramatic exit.

Pace like you have a soul

Online dating compresses intimacy. You can feel “known” because you have swapped trauma stories before you have shared a meal. Go slower than the app's infinite scroll. A workable pace for many people:

  1. Match and talk about ordinary life — work, church, friends — before theology exams or future kids.
  2. Video or a short call if the chat is kind and specific, so you know they are the person in the photos.
  3. A public daytime coffee. Tell a friend where you are. Drive yourself. Do not go to their apartment “just to talk.”
  4. If it continues, let your church people meet them. Isolated couples make isolated mistakes.

Physical pace is yours to set. Do not outsource it to someone who is in a hurry. Do not shame someone for being slower than you. If you disagree, that is data — not a debate stage.

Talk about faith without performing

Quote Scripture if it is how you actually speak. Do not paste a verse to win an argument or to look holy on a profile. Ask what their church does to them: do they have people who would notice if they disappeared? Have they ever changed their mind because of the Bible, not just Instagram? How they handle conflict with a pastor or a roommate will tell you more than a favorite worship song.

Denomination language on Agape is a map, not a purity test. “Unsure” is an honest answer. “Other” is fine. Pretending to be the tradition you think gets more likes is how you inherit a spouse who does not exist.

Red flags that still wear a cross

  • They ask for money, gift cards, crypto, or help with a visa or hospital bill.
  • They refuse a video call after many messages, or the call is always “broken.”
  • Love-bombing: soulmate language in forty-eight hours, especially paired with isolation from your friends.
  • Rage when you say no, including spiritualized rage (“you’re quenching the Spirit”).
  • Pressure to leave the app immediately for a private number before you know they are real.
  • Photos that look professional in a way that never matches how they write, or stolen-looking shots.

Report those accounts. Read Safety. Romance scams target Christians because kindness can be mistaken for credulity. Kindness does not require a wire transfer.

Use the app; do not let it use you

Set a time limit. Pray, if that is your practice, before you open the stack — not as magic, as a way to remember these are people. When you pass, pass. When you match, show up. Ghosting is still unkind when you add a fish emoji. If you need to end it, one clear sentence is enough: “I don’t see this becoming what I’m looking for. I wish you well.”
